Maine IDs

A kid I know makes Maine IDs and all he does is print the template on
his normal ink jet printer, and put them in a sleeve and run them
through a laminator. Now I want to start making my own. I figure Maine
are one of the easiest to make since that's what he makes. I've seen
him make them, and it takes him no more than 5 minutes once he takes
the picture and loads up photoshop.

What I'm wondering is what sleeves I will need to buy, and what
laminator. Also, if anyone has a good Maine template for photoshop.

If there are any IDs made the same way, which ones are they? They seem
really easy to make, although they don't have a hologram or anything,
but they do scan.

If anyone can point me to a link where I can buy the sleeves and
laminator, and a template I would really appreciate it. There are
certain thicknesses to the sleeves too right?

One complaint I do have about his IDs is that they fall apart easily.
Because he laminates them, but then uses a paper cutter and cuts off
the sides, and after being in your pocket for a bit, the laminate
starts peeling off. Is there any way to help prevent that? Thank you

Please email me at ***@gmail.com if you can help. Thanks

Could I purchase something like this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-ID-Hot-Laminator-4-Laminating-MACHINE-100-POUCHES_W0QQitemZ7593458009QQcategoryZ25317QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

But I'm not sure what type of sleeves to get or what thickness, anyone
have any ideas? And I still need help with a template.

dude, forget that, that thing is good for laminating your vacation
photos, thats about it. it clearly states it is preset for 3mil
laminate. even old paper laminated id's use at least 7mil laminate
(thats the thickness I use for old NJ, not too stiff, not too soft).
go to www.brainstormid.com for your pouches, you'll need CC sized
(2.125"x3.375") pouches either 7mil or 10mil depending on what id
you're doing. then you'll also need some 10 or 14mil teslin sheets to
print on, much better than paper. on top of that I assume you'll need
to get some pearl-ex for the holos. people have gotten alright results
with the inkjet method, but I definatley reccomend the ALPS method.
and finally you'll need a good laminator. the best ones will have an
adjustable temp and will handle at least 10mil laminate. I use a Xerox
one i picked up at Staples for 79.99, works great. Even for just
getting into bars you'll need more than a $40 laminator to pull off
id's. Most of us here have at least $500 invested in equipment.
