I'm having some trouble finding out what information is on ID bar
codes would appreciate some help.

I'm looking into

California id's
And
Massachusetts
From what I hear its date of birth and name but I'd like to be sure.
Another use to have a program online that generated the type of barcode
that Massachusetts uses can anyone tell me the name of it ?

Thanks for your time

Is it a 2D barcode? I believe Massachusetts has one. Maybe this will
help: http://www.turbulence.org/Works/swipe/barcode.html
For a regular 1D barcode, you'll have get a valid license, figure out
what format of the barcode, then read it, and see how the data matches
what's on the front.
Do you have a good scan?

Search these forums before asking that question. It's been answered in
several topics with a lot of helpful links.

Thanks a lot for the heads up on the other posts rush.
Thanks also to Blad Krytyczny for the link

I enjoyed reading your many post on the subject of barcodes. I now have
a pretty good comprehension of the Ma 2d barcode. The only think is
I'm looking for info on the California 1d barcode as well and
unfortunately can't seem to find any thing on what information is put
on it. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate them.

Thanks

I'm looking for more info on the CA barcode too. I have scanned 2 CA
barcodes and looked over the information, searching for correlations
with the front of the card, but so far, half of the numbers are still a
mystery to me. Here's what I can tell you for sure: the number is 16
digits, and the last 9 correlate to the driver's license letter and
number. The letter is represented by the 8th and 9th digits, its just
the number of the letter in the alphabet (ex. D = 04). The last 7
digits are just the license number that follows the letter.

For example, D5840394 would produce a barcode that looks like:

XXXXXXX045840394

I don't know what the numbers represented by X's mean yet. If you have
any barcode scans and corresponding license info that you don't mind
sharing, I could possibly figure out more, because at the moment I only
have 2 to work with. You could omit name and license # to make it
private, I'm sure the remaining numbers must have something to do with
date of birth, expiration date, and the string of numbers on the bottom.

In the case of the Mass 1D barcode, it's just a random number used by
the police to verify that it is, indeed, your license. Kinda like a
second license #. I have no experience with CA, but that very well may
be the case with their novs as well.

That would make sense - I don't really know why the DMV would go
through the effort of encoding birthdate and other information in some
cryptic format on the barcode when it's all available on the magstrip
already. That would also explain why the driver's license # is seven
digits and I have seven mystery digits.

Well first off thanks for all the feed back its very helpful.

Sean:
Since we are both researching on the same subject maybe we should talk
in-depth about the subject at some point and share or resources.

I would have emailed you but funny enough it seems we both used the
same disposable email service.

So is their anyway I could get in contact with you ?

for californai TheJerm has made a CA barcode generator that you can
find out on the net somewhere. (Dont ask me) I think it puts your name
and bday on it, I forget.

its a string generation, it doesnt create the barcode...it creates the
source code for the barcode that you still have to plug into pdfcenter
or barcode magic.

its really not worth much unless youre completely retarded and havent
done your research on barcodes

So what data is it putting into the string, and how would you go about
creating the string from the data without the program?

its just putting the input data into the places where there needs to
be....i mean its just coded so the first input is like the variable a
and the variable a is equal to the first editable section of the
barcode....say you were doing va

DAQ a
DAA b
DAG c

would be within the code and then the inputed data from the program
would correspond the a with the dl code the b with the name and the c
with the address

its not coded like this cause this is a simple example...but the idea
is there the data inputted is the actual number name and address and
the string is just the barcode string code.

you just have to weed through the actual barcode code and pick out the
areas needed to edit.

For about a hundred bucks, you can go into office max, buy a barcode
scanner that hooks up to your pc with software. Scan a real id, it
will tell you the format, along with the data on it. Take the data and
the format, put it into an online barcode generation tool, replace the
data, tell it the format...done!

Drop me an email at the address listed. I have an account at
mytrashmail, not one of the disposable addresses, so it actually does
keep my messages sent there for a few days, and no one else can access
them.
