From my experiences, no. It is impossible to create a NY id to fool
even a bouncer. The front laminate is a proprietary 3m material.
While it's general feel can sort of be replicated with publically
availible laminates, the easy test that bouncers use to test whether a
NY id is real or fake is impossible to replicate. When a bouncer gets
a NY id, they will hold the sides, bend the ID into a 'U' shape and
then move thier hands back and forth rapidly. Then if the ID is real,
a powdery residue will have formed in the middle of the front of the
ID. This residue can easily be felt with your fingers. You can't
replicate this effect with any other laminate.
In addition the new NY Drivers License has a newly developed embedded
OVD. The device used to create the OVD prior to it's insertion in the
laminate layers is a multi-million dollar machine. The finalized OVD
both dissapears (truly completely, no visible presence whatsoever),
appears flat, and appears to jump off the document; all depending on
the viewing angle of the document. The newly issued NY ID will most
likely never be forged by anyone effectively to even fool a bouncer or
bar-tender.
