alps with a mac

i'm about to make an investment so i'm just wondering if anyone is
using an alps with a mac (osx).

i saw some directions scanned in from the manuals and i think it said
it uses scsi which is old school.
anyone using a usb adaptor set with the mac drivers and os x (and
having good results)?
