Just wondering what everyone has found best for printing on teslin with
an Alps. I have an MD 5000, and the regular inks look damn good on
paper. But I was wondering if I should invest in the photo cartridges
(dye-sub mode) for teslin. I know it's a jump in DPI, but what works
better in terms of bonding with the teslin, the regular MD (MicroDry)
carts of the Photo (Dye Sublimation) carts? Any opinions either way
would be appreciated.

why use an alps on teslin? Why not just use an epson printer.. i bet
you you will get better results with an epson than an alps for
printing.

No dice on using the dye sub inks for making a laminated id....Dye
sublimation means that the inks are heated in the transfer to the paper
from the alps ribbon. In other words, they are thermal transfer inks.
This means that the printer head heats the inks up really faster in
order to melt the inks in a specific pattern onto the surface, which is
great for continuous color pictures, or for trapping things under the
clear coat, but not so great for things that will be heated up later.
Lamination turns the inks to soup and will completely fuck up the
image.
Unless you are not using a hot lamination process (and then you ahve
more things to worry about than print quality) the alps transfer
ribbons will not work for ids.
