When I've opened accounts, they ask for a social security number and
picture ID. Then the officer uses this info to do a check with Check
Systems. If a previous bank claims you owe money to them, Check Systems
reveals it, and the officer usually won't open the account. But some
banks will do it if you only owe one bank. It depends.

So the question is, Does Check Systems have a method of detecting fake
SS numbers?

with Check Systems. But I really don't know the nature of Check

What could you use that "bank" for? It's not really a bank by American
or European standards. No credit cards (even though they have a fee
schedule posted), no ATMs, no checks; they'll store your money for you,
I think. And for a few bucks (or Euros) they'll give you a letter of
credit. But what good is a letter of credit form someone in Yugoslavia?

You can avoid all of that by opening a savings account instead - there is no
"checking" with Check Systems and if you just want to cash a check, go with
your check, deposit a small amount, and cash the rest. Worked for me.
